Orhodox Church

Today Nancie and I went to the large Church we can see from our window/Being westerners we arrived right on the dot of 9 but everyone else drifted in = and out= as the fancy took them/ It was very sensual/ A man with a wonderful bass voice led the singing in a kind of Old Man River style/ It was deeply moving and easy to drift into a contemplative mood/Occasionally we heard Kyrie Eleison = Lord have mercy = but mostly we couldn\t understand it/ We took our courage in our hands and went forward with everyone else to kiss the Bible/There was a sense of moving towards a climax but I think it would have continued for hours after we left/I don\t think Alan Bennett could have got his teeth into it in the way he made fun of the Anglican service/ Though he has fremained an Anglican or so he told Philip Adams/

Roosters\ cats and dogs roamed the Church compound/
